# An Overview of Batik Air and Career Opportunities for Flight Attendants
Established in 2013, Batik Air stands as a prominent private, full-service airline in Indonesia. Operating as a subsidiary of the Lion Air Group, the carrier was launched to address the growing demand for premium air travel. The airline’s inaugural flight took place on May 3, 2013, connecting Jakarta to Manado and Balikpapan. Originally conceived by founder Rusdi Kirana to manage the massive order backlog of the parent company, Lion Air, Batik Air has since evolved into a vital player in the aviation sector, primarily utilizing the reliable Boeing 737-900ER fleet.
While the airline initially pursued ambitious long-haul international expansion plans involving the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, these were pivoted in 2014 to focus on medium-range operations, leading to a strategic replacement of wide-body orders with more versatile Boeing 737 aircraft.
